Oil-Tolerant Epoxy Primer

Description: Oil-tolerant Epoxy Primer is a two-component epoxy resin membrane that is tolerant of residual oil contamination in concrete floors.  Oil-tolerant Epoxy Primeris designed to improve the adhesion of coatings and screed systems to substrates that have previously been contaminated with oils, and have been thoroughly cleaned but may still retain some residual contamination.

Typical Usage:
As a primer for concrete containing residual oil contamination prior to application of Epoxy Resin and Polyurethane Resin seamless floor systems.

Advantages:
• Low odour • Excellent adhesion
• Moisture tolerant • Low viscosity, easily applied
• Applies to variety of surfaces • Good chemical resistance

Technical Data (after 28 Days @ 200C)
Chemical Resistance Good
Bond Strength > 3.50 N/mm2 (Concrete Failure)
VOC < 200g/l Based on a fully mixed unit
Curing Schedule (@ 20oC)
Pot Life 30 Mins
Overcoating 12 hours/Surface has lost tackiness
NOTE: At lower temperatures the above cure times will be increased.

Surface Preparation
Concrete surfaces should be sound with a minimum compressive strength of 25 N/mm2 and a minimum pull-off strength of 1.5 N/ mm2. They should be mechanically prepared so that the concrete is clean and free from dust, laitance, grease, oil, curing compound, existing paint finishes,
etc. Suitable mechanical treatment such as vacuum enclosed shot-blasting or mechanical scabbling are recommended to ensure the removal of contaminants and to provide a mechanical ‘key’ for the Oil-tolerant Epoxy Primer.
A proprietary de-greaser should be applied to the contamination as per manufacturers’ instructions, thoroughly worked into the surfaces and allowed to sit for at least 20 minutes. Agitate with a scrubber and rinse thoroughly as per manufacturers’ instructions. Several cleaning cycles may be required. Finally, rinse the surface thoroughly with clean water to remove and residues and allow to dry. Inspect the resultant surface and ensure that there is no free oil contamination on the surface and that no residual oil is rising from the substrate. Surfaces must be free from liquid water and the atmosphere must be free from condensation.
Weak concrete must be removed and repaired using recommended RCS products.

Mixing
Pour the contents of the part B container into the part A container and thoroughly mix using a slow speed mixing drill for a minimum of five minutes until the material forms a uniform consistency
Do not mix by hand.

Application
Apply the mixed material with a short to medium pile roller making sure that the surface is thoroughly wetted out. A second coat of  Oil-tolerant Epoxy Primershould be applied 12 to 24 hours after the first coat has cured (see Curing Time).
The ambient temperature of the works area should be a minimum of 15oC during the application and curing period, if not adhered to this can affect the colour and appearance of the system.
Materials and substrate temperature must be above 10oC.

Coverage
Approximately 4m2 per Kg. Coverage is dependent on surface profile, texture, porosity and substrate temperature.
Storage
Store in dry conditions at temperatures between 10°C and 25°C. Do not expose to freezing conditions.
Oil-tolerant Epoxy Primer has a maximum of twelve months shelf life when stored in the original, unopened containers.

Health & Safety
Avoid contact of the material with skin and eyes. Wear appropriate gloves, overalls and eye protection during use. Please refer to material safety sheet for additional information. For specific advice regarding any aspect of this product, please consult our technical section.

Limitations
• Product should be protected from other trades using Kraft paper or similar breathable material. Polythene should not be used.
• Protect the installed floor from damp, condensation and water for at least twenty-four hours at 20°C.
• Ensure that the ambient temperature remains above 10 degrees C for at least twenty-four hours after installation.
• The substrate and uncured floor must be kept at least 3 degrees C above the dew point to reduce the risk of condensation or blooming on the surface.
