Making a works floor safe.

A moulding manufacturer in Middleton had a floor that had been worn mirror smooth through regular heavy-duty usage and needed a floor which alleviated the risks of both vehicle skidding and personnel slipping (see above image).

The answer was to install ACL heavy-duty, high-build floor coatings with a coarse scatter of anti-slip aggregate. The result is now just a safer flooring but a transformed appearance, creating a brighter, more dynamic aspect to the working environment.

Transforming a precision engineering shop floor.

The above image shows a gleaming 3mm self-smoothing epoxy resin finish applied at Stoneswood Engineering in Dukinfield. The original floor (see image below) had a worn resin coating which was profiled and pitted.

After filling significant holes and applying an oil-tolerant epoxy resin primer, the self-smoothing epoxy resin provided a smooth, seamless finish; an ideal substrate for the newly-acquired high-value precision engineering plant.

The concrete had a rough texture with a new section of slab to the rear, which needed to be bridged with scrim after the entire floor had been mechanically ground under vacuum-control.

Brick-edging installed by the client had created a 20-28mm fall to the slab level and a polymer screed slop of approximately 2.5m was first installed to smooth out the difference in levels.

The finished 3mm self-smoothing epoxy screed system completely transformed the garage, providing a fitting, clean surface for the fleet of Range Rovers.

Transforming a domestic garage.

A garage at a home is typically used for general storage with the concrete slab frequently being dusty, with a profiled or pitted surface. A self-smoothing resin floor can transform a garage so that it becomes effectively another room of the house, suitable for use as an exercise room, play area or as an office.

Rejuvenating an old floor with several layers of coatings.

Sometimes, there is more to giving a workshop a new look that just at light mechanical sanding and rolling on a floor paint. The unit taken over by SECC in Hartford, Cheshire had a build-up of many layers of coatings of varying thickness and a thorough diamond -grinding was required as part of the process to get the floor looking as it as it does in the image opposite.

This is what the floor looked like before we went to work.

Floating Flakes

‘Floating Flakes’ for a superior gloss finish.

Traditional resin flake systems involve broadcasting multi-colouredflakes, typically varying in size by upto 5mm, and sealing with clear resin, to leave an orange-peel texture. This does provide both a durable and decorative finish but the appearance is greatly enhanced when the flakes are ‘floating in clear resin’.

The Cheshire Resin Flooring system involves smaller, regular-sized flakes, floating in a high-build coating before the final seal coats are added. This leaves a tile-like smoothness which a high-gloss finish, giving that certain ‘wow’ factor entironments like high-end stores and nightclubs where first impressions really count.

The above and below images show an application at a high-end shoe store in London.
